KATHMANDU, April 17: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has called on political parties to reach the people's doorsteps and help create an atmosphere conducive to holding the election.

KATHMANDU, April 17: Two ruling parties --Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (Maoist Center) - have reached  an informal understanding to hold the local level election on the stipulated date even if the agitating parties united under the Federal Alliance (FA) do not come on board.

DANG, April 17: Kamal Rokka, an exiled Nepali Congress leader of Rolpa's Thawang village, recently got a phone call from a political rival of his village which is popularly known as the bastion of Maoist insurgency.  The caller was an influential left-wing leader of Thawang, who until recent was against holding the local elections. However, the call was to offer his support and express his interest in conducting the local polls in Thawang by setting aside their differences.

KATHMANDU, April 17: As part of final preparations for the May 14 elections, the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday set up the offices of the chief returning officers in all 75 districts. This is intended to give momentum to poll preparations across the country.

KATHMANDU, April 16: Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi and Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav, today briefed the parliamentary committee about the preparations and progress being made regarding the May 14 local-level election.

BAGLUNG, April 16: Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has stressed on holding the local polls in a single phase even after postponing the date for few days.

BARDIYA, April 15: Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa has urged the Madhesh based parties to participate in the upcoming local level polls.

POKHARA, April 15: The major political parties in Kaski district have encountered difficulties to pick the official candidate from the parties to contest the local level polls due to a large numbers of aspirants in the district.

TAPLEJUNG, April 14: Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are still on discussion for selection of candidates while CPN (Maoist Centre) has already intensified its election campaign in villages.
