Nine districts in eastern Nepal face flood risks

KATHMANDU, Oct 2: The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DoHM) has reported a risk of flooding in nine districts of eastern Nepal.

According to the notice issued by the FFD this morning, there is a possibility of moderate risk of flood in Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Panchthar, Tehrathum, Dhankuta, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari and surrounding districts. Therefore, the FFD has urged everyone to maintain high vigilance for the next three days. The DoHM has reported that there is no risk of flooding in large rivers, however, there is a risk of flash floods in small rivers.

The water level in the Kankai River will rise significantly today and tomorrow, however, it is likely to remain below the alert level. The FFD has urged the public to be on high alert in the Kankai Riverbank area, as the water level will rise significantly.

The water level of the major rivers of Nepal including Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali, Bagmati, East Rapti, West Rapti and Babai River, is likely to vary slightly and remain below the alert level. Therefore, the DoHM has urged everyone to maintain general vigilance today and tomorrow on the banks of these rivers.

The water level in several small rivers flowing nearby Bhojpur, Khotang, Solukhumbu, Udaipur, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Kaski and Lamjung is expected to increase. Therefore, the DoHM has suggested being cautious along the riverbanks where the flow is predicted to rise.
