The procession set out from Thamel and concluded upon reaching Basantapur. It passed through Tridevimarga, Jamal, Kamladi, Asan, Indrachowk and Juddhasalik.
Addressing the assembly at Basantapur, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Posta Bahadur Bogati, expressed the confidence that tourism could be given a boost if we could protect and promote the cultural heritages throughout the country including in the Kathmandu Valley.
He stressed that development of tourism could complement the economic development of the country as a whole.
The Tourism Minister stressed according priority to tourism development for it could open the door to economic revolution in the country.
Executive Chief of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, said that the KMC is planning to operate metro train and electric buses in an effort to develop Kathmandu Valley as a tourism hub.
The theme of the World Tourism Day this year is - Tourism and Energy for Sustainable Development.
Forty-eight different organizations related to tourism sector have planned a variety of programmes as seminars, street festivals, food festivals, cultural shows, welcoming tourists and honouring persons making significant contribution to tourism development on the occasion of the World Tourism Day today.
Pokhara marks tourism day
POKHARA, Sept 27: The first tourist couple visiting the International Mountaineering Museum in Pokhara on the occasion of the World
Tourism Day on thursday, has been feted.
Museum chief Bal Prasad Rai welcomed the first tourist couple (Wai Yung Jhang and Jung Ling Jing from China) offering shawls to them. They were the first tourists reaching the museum today.[break]
Entry fee to the museum for both domestic and foreign tourists is free today, it is learnt. The museum provides all necessary information about the Himalayan region and the lifestyle there.
Entry fee for students visiting the museum is Rs. 35 per head, whereas tourists from SAARC are charged Rs. 100 per head and Rs. 300 per head for those from western countries.
A total of 153,390 tourists had visited the museum in the last fiscal year 2068-69 BS, said the Museum Management Committee. Rs. 11.32 million was collected through the sale of entry tickets, it is learnt.
The museum has been operational since 2061 BS and so far over 600,000 tourists have visited it.
Besides, the first tourists visiting other tourism sites in Pokhara today were also honoured.
