World leaders congratulate PM Balen Shah, pledge stronger ties with Nepal

World leaders and diplomatic missions have extended congratulatory messages to newly appointed Prime Minister Balendra Shah, expressing optimism for enhanced bilateral cooperation and continued partnership with Nepal.

KATHMANDU, March 27: World leaders and diplomatic missions have extended congratulatory messages to newly appointed Prime Minister Balendra Shah, expressing optimism for enhanced bilateral cooperation and continued partnership with Nepal.



Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Shah on his swearing-in, stating that his appointment reflects the trust of the Nepali people. He expressed readiness to work closely to further strengthen India-Nepal friendship and cooperation for mutual benefit.


China, through its foreign ministry spokesperson, also congratulated Shah and expressed readiness to work with Nepal’s new government to deepen traditional friendship and expand practical cooperation.

The British Embassy Kathmandu also extended congratulations, noting that the UK-Nepal relationship is evolving into a modern partnership focused on economic growth, youth employment and climate resilience. It expressed willingness to collaborate with the new government on these priorities.


The US Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs also congratulated Shah and the new government, stating that the United States looks forward to working with Nepal to advance mutual prosperity and regional stability.


From Japan, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi sent a congratulatory letter to Shah, expressing her intent to work together to deepen Nepal-Japan bilateral relations, according to Japan’s foreign ministry.


Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif both congratulated Shah and his party on their electoral victory, expressing hope for stronger cooperation and regional engagement. They highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding ties with Nepal and commitment to advancing shared goals of peace, stability and prosperity in South Asia.


Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay also congratulated Shah, expressing hope for advancing peace, stability and shared prosperity while strengthening bilateral friendship.


The European Union, through its spokesperson Anouar El Anouni, welcomed the new government and reaffirmed its support in Nepal’s development priorities.


Among other diplomatic messages, Swiss Ambassador Danielle Meuwly, Norwegian Ambassador Dagny Mjøs and the Embassy of Finland in Nepal extended their best wishes, emphasising cooperation in areas such as inclusive development, democracy and human rights.
