Worker dies after electric pole collapses while trimming tree branch

KATHMANDU, Feb 9: A person has died after getting struck by a pole on Sunday in Jhapa district.

According to the District Police Office, Jhapa, two individuals, Sita Ram Urau, 26 and Silas Urau, 23 were cutting branches of a peepal tree in a tea garden, located in Nakalbanda of Mechinagar Municipality at 10:30 am on Sunday. While cutting the branch of the tree, the branch hit an electric pole (which was not carrying current) causing it to fall. The pole struck the head of Mangale Sarki, a 58-year-old laborer, causing a severe injury. 

Following that he was immediately rushed to the Provincial Hospital in Bhadrapur, Jhapa, for treatment. Unfortunately, the doctors declared him dead at 11:15 am during treatment.

Following the incident, the Area Police Office in Kakarbhitta has detained the two individuals who were cutting the tree branches for further investigation.

Police added that further investigation regarding this matter is currently ongoing.
