Wage hike deal won't be terminated: FNCCI

KATHMANDU, March 30: Industrialists said on Wednesday that they will not terminate the agreement they signed with big three trade unions a couple of weeks ago.



Speaking at a program organized by Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON), speakers from the private sector expressed their unhappiness over the ongoing industrial unrest in the country in the name of wage hike. [break]



“It´s really unfortunate that most of the industries across the country have been forcefully closed even though the demands put forward by the workers have been fulfilled,” said Kush Kumar Joshi, president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).



He also criticized the workers for not returning to work despite the employers fulfilling their demands.



“We signed the agreement to fulfill the demand put forth by the workers. But some groups are standing against the agreement, blaming us for not recognizing their existence,” Joshi added.



Joshi asked the government to intervene into the issue and ensure environment conducive for industries to resume operation. “We will bring industrial production across the country to a grinding halt, if the government didn´t act,” he added.



Responding to queries raised by media persons, Joshi said the ongoing labor strike was politically motivated as the workers are affiliated to different political parties.
