KATHMANDU, March 15: Vijay Kumar of India put up a consistent performance and carded 3-under 69 on both the first and second days to lead the Surya Nepal Masters 2012 with a total of 6-under 138 on Thursday.
After the completion of second round, Vijay Kumar enjoys a one-stroke lead over another Indian golfer Abhijit Singh Chadha, who carded 4-under 68 on Wednesday and 1-under 71 on Thursday for a total of 5-under 139.[break]
Vikrant Chopra, Sanjay Kumar and Shankar Das are joint third on the leaderboard with a total of 4-under 140.
Overnight leader and Nepal No 1 Shiva Ram Shreshta played a disastrous round of golf and suffered 4-over 76 on Thursday at the Gokarna Forest Golf Resort, Kathmandu. Shrestha, who carded 7-under 65 on Wednesday, is tied for sixth with Mukesh Kumar and Suleman Ali with a total of 3-under 141.
In the amateur section, Tashi Tsering carded 1-under 71 on Thursday for a total of 2-over 146 and remained on top of the leaderboard. He shares the 22nd position in overall. Bikash Bogati is second among the participating 10 amateurs with a total of 11-over 155.
Leader Vijay Kumar shot birdies on the fifth, sixth and seventh holes against a bogey on the eighth hole to take a turn with 2-under 34. He fired an eagle on the 12th hole against a bogey on the 17th hole to complete the back nine with 1-under 35.
Overnight leader Shrestha suffered bogeys on the first, fourth and eighth holes and enjoyed only one birdie on hole No 3 to finish the front nine with 2-over 38.
On the back nine, he suffered bogeys on the 15th, 17th and 18th holes. He carded only one birdie on the 11th hole to complete the back nine on 2-over 38.
