KATHMANDU, July 25: The Society of the Family of Disappeared Citizens by the State has taken serious exception to the government´s bid to promote Nepal Army (NA) colonel Raju Basnet.

Society Chairperson Yek Raj Bhandari said the family members of those killed, disappeared and injured in course of the conflict have been hurt by the government´s move to promote Colonel instead of bringing him to book for his involvement in gross violation of human rights and also drew the government´s attention to immediately stop the process.

The Society has voiced concern over the move of the incumbent government, formed on the foundation of the People´s War, to promote Basnet by disrespecting the sentiment of the families of martyrs and the disappeared.

It is worth mentioning that NA Colonel Basnet was found guilty and thus recommended for action by a report of Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for committing serious violation of human rights during the insurgency.
