The temperature in the Valley on Wednesday morning reached -2 degree Celsius surpassing the record of the past four years. Likewise, the maximum temperature on Wednesday hovered around 16 degree Celsius, making the residents of the Kathmandu Valley feel biting cold throughout the day. [break]
The coldest day in the Valley since record keeping began was on January 11, 1978 when the temperature dropped to -3.5 degree Celsius.
In the last two years, the temperature hadn´t dropped to sub zero in the valley. As for this winter, the minimum temperature had reached below the freezing point for the first time on Monday morning. The MFD recorded the minimum temperature at -0.7 degree Celsius on Monday morning and -1.1 degree Celsius on Tuesday morning.
According to Rajendra Shrestha, senior meteorologist at MFD, "The temperature will remain static for the next two days as no sign of change in the weather is seen yet." He further said that the minimum temperature may further drop to -3 degree Celsius in the Valley.
Also, the entire hill region across the country is significantly chilly with little relief in the afternoon, MFD said.
