SINDHUPALCHOWK, Jan 24: The United States has expressed its commitment to provide assistance for Nepali villages sharing border with China.

After their two days visit in and around Tatopani, one of major border points for Nepal-China trade, the Kathmandu-based US embassy officials assured that they would provide financial assistance in agriculture, tourism, roads, hydropower and industrial development. [break]

"Rather than direct funding from the US, we will mobilize aid agencies like USAID, the World Bank (WB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) for development here," Rajendra Kumar Shrestha, Sindhupalchowk chapter president of FNCCI, quoted Timothy Trenkle, political and economic section chief at the US embassy.

During their meetings with local business leaders, the US embassy officials also expressed their concerns over the sorry state of the Araniko highway.
