US envoy meets Maoist combatants

CHITWAN, Dec 5: US Ambassador to Nepal Scott H. DeLisi on Saturday met Maoist combatants of the Third Division Cantonment in Shaktikhor, Chitawan and inquired with them about the methods of integration.



The US envoy spent about 45 minutes at the third division cantonment. He spent some 15 minutes interacting with Maoist army commanders, according to the Maoist Third Division Cantonment. [break]



"We were altogether 15 people including two vice commanders, brigade commanders and vice commanders," said Third Division Brigade Vice Commander Ishwar Sapkota Suman. The envoy had reached the cantonment at 12 noon.



 "He [the envoy] asked us what could be the right methods of integration. We said that any decision made by our party would be acceptable to us," he added.



When the envoy inquired about the living conditions of the Maoist combatants in the cantonments, they complained that they have not received money for ration and pocket expenses from the government since the last two months.



The envoy, who was accompanied by the representatives of UN, did not give his opinions about the integration process during the interaction.
