The disciplinary body took the decision at an emergency meeting after a faction of the party led by the prime minister and Oli held a gathering at the prime minister´s official residence at Baluwatar on Tuesday to press party Chairman Jhalanath Khanal to hold central committee (CC) meeting.[break]
"We urged them to not hold such gatherings at any place other than the party´s offices and to not lead any campaign like signature collection without informing the party leadership as such a move would send a wrong message to the public," Hari Sapkota, a member of the party´s disciplinary body, told Republica.
The party sources said the party establishment has taken the signature campaign seriously in view of Chairman Khanal himself eying the prime ministerial post. They have termed it as "factionalism and conspiracy against the party leadership". Those demanding CC meeting were lobbying for NC leader Ram Chandra Paudel. "How can it be tolerable if senior leaders lobby in favor of an NC leader´s candidacy against the party´s unanimous decision," a leader close to Khanal said.
