The UML also suggested to the government to complete all the preparatory works ranging from political, legal and technical so as to create a strong ground for elections before announcing the date.[break]
The party denounced recent remarks by UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and urged him not to repeat such "provocative remarks". While addressing a mass gathering in Dhading on Saturday, Dahal had said that elections must be held in the coming summer and any plan to defer the polls for winter would not be acceptable to his party. He also accused the government of conspiring to postpone the polls for winter.
"The UML denounces any remarks that are against the political agreement and disturb election environment, and urges all those concerned not to repeat such remarks," stated the 10-point proposal passed by the politburo meeting.
While Dahal in his public speech demanded that election be conducted in summer, Nepali Congress and UML have been saying that the election should be held in winter if it is not possible in summer. The 11-point political deal that paved the way for formation of present government has stated that polls will be conducted in winter if it is not possible in summer.
Head of the election government Khil Raj Regmi on Monday said that he is not for fixing poll date in haste. He said he is for laying strong ground for polls prior to fixing the specific date.
The UML has instructed its rank and file to concentrate all energy in making the election a success. The party has directed its members to facilitate and support the voters´ registration process carried out by the Election Commission.
The party urged the agitating political parties including the Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist and Madhesi People´s Rights Forum to seek solutions to their concerns through dialogues and to join the election process.
