LAHAN, Dec 3: As the country reels under crisis, top leaders of agitating Madhes-based parties themselves are not immune to the hardship afflicting general public due to the over 100 days long protest.

Last Thursday, Upendra Yadav and Rajendra Mahato, among other leaders of United Democratic Madhesi Party (UDMF), rode pillion on a motorbike to attend the funeral procession of four deceased in the district headquarters Rajbiraj, Saptari.
Sadbhawana Party (SP) Chairman Mahato was seen riding pillion against three days later as he visited the family of the deceased to express his sympathy.
Last Monday, Mahato traveled from Rajbiraj to Biratnagar, the headquarters of Morang district on motorbike to attend a mass assembly. Likewise, he hopped on the backseat of a motorbike to reach Sunsari and travel back to Saptari to address rallies last Tuesday.

“Motorbike is the only means of travel for UDMF leaders while visiting Tarai districts,” said Mahato, who was in Dhalkebar of Dhanusha district to address a gathering on Wednesday.

Like Mahato, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) Chairman Yadav was also rode pillion while traveling to Saptari, Sunsari, Morang, Siraha and Dhanusha district last week.

Another top leader of the UDMF, Mahendra Ray Yadav, chairman of Tarai-Madhes Sadhbhawana Party (TMSP), also traveled from Sunsari to Dhanusha on a motorbike to address the mass assembly on Wednesday.

Although Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur flew to Janakpur from Kathmandu, he was compelled to travel on a motorbike to the Wednesday's program in Dhalkebar.

According to UDMF top leaders, they, too, face security threats during long-distance travel through restive areas, but they do not seek security from local administration.
Party cadres accompany the leaders to ensure their safety.
