Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday said the party will promote public private partnership (PPP) model for economic development. [break]
Receiving suggestions for the party´s election manifesto prepared by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Dahal said the party cannot move ahead without joining hands with the private sector for capital mobilization. “We strongly believe private public partnership will lead the country toward economic development,” added Dahal.
The apex body of Nepali private sector has already submitted similar suggestions to other political parties, including Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, in a bid to make them agree on a common minimum economic agenda.
At an interaction with Maoist leaders, the business people urged the former rebel leaders to make clear its economic policy.
During insurgency, the party was against prioritizing private sector for economic development.
Responding to the private sector, Dahal said the party has transformed. “After the conclusion of People´s War, we are moving toward socialism,” Dahal said, adding that some leaders left the party after the party adopted liberal economic policy.
The party´s general convention held in Hetauda had adopted liberal economy policy, recognizing the role of private sector in economic development.
“As per our economic policy, the state would play the role of facilitator for the private sector. We are against putting in place state-controlled mechanism,” senior party leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai said. “We need investment of around Rs 600-700 billion for economic development every year. As revenue mobilization alone won´t be sufficient, private sector should raise its investment.”
FNCCI President Suraj Vaidya said parties should clearly state (in their election manifesto) whether or not they need private sector investment. “The election manifestos of major political parties should have common minimum economic agenda,” Vaidya said, “Parties should, at least, address the outflow of youths to foreign job destination.” Promulgation of constitution alone won´t address the problems of the youths, Vaidya added.
Vaidya said economic agendas shouldn´t be overshadowed by political agendas.
