The arrested cops are head constables Kamal Rai and Hom Bahdur Tamang. Rai is currently serving at the Metropolitan Police Commissioner´s Office (MPCO), Ranipokhari and Tamang at Nepal Police Headquarters.[break]
An 18-years-old, Harka Man Waiba, has also been arrested along with the two cops. All three were arrested from Gangabu, Kathmandu on Sunday.
According to the police source, the accused had kidnapped Som Maya and Man Bahadur Syantan from their quarters at Jorpati at 9:00 pm, Saturday and taken them to Gongabu the same night by a taxi (registration BA 1 Ja 4575).
However, the alleged kidnappers released Syantan immediately afterwards, telling him to come back with a ransom of Rs. 100,000.
A special squad from Metropolitan Police Circle, Bouddha, arrested the three from Gongabu, New Buspark as they were about to collect Rs. 50,000 from Syantan, who had come back with the police, said the source. The accused are being held at Baudha police office.
Police have safely rescued Som Maya Tamang, 30, who orginally hails from Sindhupalchowk.
“Waiwa, who is well acquainted with Som Maya, had masterminded the abduction with help from the arrested cops," the source confirmed. Waiwa is a resident of Balaju.
