Tunnel highway construction begins

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Construction of Kathmandu-Kulekhani-Hetauda Tunnel (KKHT) highway have begun. Issuing a statement, Nepal Purbadhar Bikas Company Limited (NPBCL) -- the developer of the 58-kilometer toll highway, said construction of access road began at Koldada of Bhimphedi on Monday. ´



We started construction works on Monday. We will reach the point from where the tunnel highway will begin in 15 days,” Kush Kumar Joshi, chairman of NPBCL, said in the statement. According to NPBCL, the highway will shorten travel time between Hetauda and Kathmandu to just one hour. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 35 billion and expected to complete within December 2016.
