KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Tribhuvan University (TU) and student unions on Tuesday reached an agreement to continue the examinations which remains disrupted from Friday. [break]

The meeting agreed to follow the report of a panel formed by TU to sort out disputes about exam boycotting.

The serial boycotting of exams of Master´s first year and Bachelor´s third year left the college areas in the capital tense. Almost all examination centers in the capital saw forced boycott of exams and clashes between police and students on Monday. Half a dozen police were injured during student demonstrations at the Office of Controller of Examinations, Balkhu, on Sunday.

"We agreed to continue the exams," said Ram Kumari Jhankri, the president of All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU).

MBS first year students boycotted the exam on Friday at Sano Thimi Campus, saying the questions were not covered by the syllabus and they had also been leaked. Following this students in many campuses also joined the boycott.

Students have different stances regarding the boycotted exams. Those who tore up the question papers demand a complete rescheduling while those who completed the exams at the uninterrupted centers insist on validation of their exams.

Similarly, the meeting also decided to probe the question leakage, allegedly from St Xavier´s College. According to a participant, the meeting was informed that by sheer coincidence all five questions were from selected 50 questions provided by the teachers to the college students.

"All these concerns will be addressed after the panel submits its report," Jhankri said.

The meeting at TU office was attended by TU registrar Bhimraj Adhikari, Rector Surya Lal Amatya, ANNFSU President Jhankri, Nepal Students´ Union President Pradeep Paudel and the general-secretary of ANNFSU (Revolutionary).
