Asta Bahadur Shrestha, 50, six-year-old Sima Ghising and eight-year-old Rima Ghising of Pushpawalpur-8 were hit by the truck while they were crossing the highway. [break]
Shrestha and Sima died on the spot, while Rima died while being taken to Janakpur Zonal Hospital for treatment, according to Inspector Hiran Kumar Yadav.
Eight-year-old Roshan Shrestha, who was seriously injured, has been referred to Biratnagar Neuro Hospital for further treatment after Janakpur Zonal Hospital could not handle his injuries.
The truck´s driver Ashok Maharjan of Jhapa is in police custody.
Immediately after the accident at 8:45 am, family members of the deceased obstructed the highway demanding compensation.
Traffic resumed at 1 pm after local civil society leaders and administration agreed to provide compensation to the victims´ families.
