Triton advance into quarters

KATHMANDU, May 11: Triton College (TC) defeated Raj Shree Campus (RC), Janakpur, by 4 runs in the ongoing Kist Bank 6th KCC Running Trophy Cricket Tournament at the TU cricket Ground, Kirtipur, on Monday. With the defeat, RJC crashed out of the tournament while TC advanced into the quarterfinal with the win. National College (NC) also advanced to the next round as runners up. [break]



Winning the toss, RC chose to field first in the match reduced to 18 overs. TC made 108, losing seven wickets in their allotted overs with major contributions from Ajay Rajbansi (20) and Manjeet Shrestha (19 unbeaten). Manjeet´s innings included 2 sixes.



For RC, Sanjog Karn, who claimed 2 wickets, was the pick of the bowlers, and Kumar Prasun and Shobhakant Pandey claimed a wicket each.



During their run chase, RC managed only 104 runs, losing nine wickets. Shobhakanta Pandey contributed and unbeaten 32 runs, while Raj Mohammed (22) and Jitendra Malik (14) were the other players to contribute double figures for RC.



Man of the Match Rupesh Shrivastav, of Triton College, and Ajay Rajbanshi claimed three wickets each, while Ritesh Singh pocketed two wickets.



In another match, the host team Kantipur City College (KCC)-Red registered a 38 run win over PUSET in a match that was shortened to eight overs due to rain. KCC has already booked a place for the knockout round.



Batting first, KCC garnered 87 runs, riding on Mehboob Alam´s 25 runs, and losing five wickets in their innings. The man of the match, Dipendra Chaudhary, contributed 23 runs, while Dipen Lamgale contributed 12 runs. Kundan Singh and Nitesh Pradhan claimed two wickets each for PUSET, while Prabin Pandey dismissed one batsman.



In reply, PUSET managed only 49 runs, losing three wickets. Kundan contributed an unbeaten 34 runs, which included three boundaries and a six, off 28 deliveries. Dipendra and Amit Alok of KCC claimed one wicket each.
