According to the Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a total of 51,969 visitors entered the country via air in April.[break]
The country received a total of 170,000 visitors over the first four months of 2011, a growth of 18.4 percent compared to the same period of last year.
Nepal has enjoyed a sustained positive growth in the international visitor arrivals since June 2009.
Rise in arrivals in the month of April was contributed by positive growth in all major sectors. South Asian segment registered a positive growth of 32.5 percent with arrivals from India growing by 38.3 percent compared to same period of last year.
Similarly, Asian market (excluding South Asia) saw a rise of 18.4 percent, thanks to growth in arrivals from Japan (13.1 percent), Thailand (5.6 percent), Singapore (37.3 percent) and South Korea (3.7 percent).
China recorded the highest growth in this segment with the growth rate at 42.2 percent, shows statistics released by the Immigration Office. Arrivals from Malaysia, however, decreased by 9.6 percent.
Tourist arrivals from European markets grew by a whopping 45.5 percent.
