'Timber smugglers' sent to judicial custody

CHITWAN, Nov 11: District Forest Office, Chitwan on Thursday remanded four persons held on charge of involving in the smuggling of forest timber products on October 3.



The arrestees including Rajkumar Gurung (30), Shiva Dhwoj Khatri (27), Purna Bahadur Chepang (18) of Shaktikhor-4, Gauribari of east Chitwan and Abhishek Lama (22) of Jutepani-7, Suryapur were sent to custody for further investigation. [break]



According to District Forest Office Chief Dr Indra Prasad Sapkota, the four were taken under control while smuggling saal timbers from public forest located in the eastern region from Ichhyakamana temple in Shaktikhor during the Dashain vacation.



Among the arrestee, Lama is the manager of Rupendra Wood Mill, Jutepani.



Likewise, the Forest Office Chitwan confiscated 20 cube feet timber and big saws used to cut down tree.



Though timbers and big saws were recovered from the site, people involved in illegally cutting down of trees in Jutepani are still at large, according to District Forest Office, Chitwan.
