Theatre Village honors Satya Mohan Joshi

KATHMANDU, Sept 15: The official inauguration of the new Satyamohan Joshi Natakghar was held at the premises of Theatre Village on Sunday, September 14. The theater hall honors Satyamohan Joshi, culture expert, not only for his contribution to Nepali theater but also for his knowledge of Nepali culture as a whole, informed Jibesh Rayamajhi, dramaturge of the Theatre Village. Rayamajhi further said, “He’s given us plays like Dailo Ma Batti, Bagh Bhairab, Sunkesari which are some of the most popular in our country. He’s also been awarded with the prestigious Madan Puraskar thrice.”



The new theater hall was jointly inaugurated by Bairagi Kainla, the Chancellor of Nepal Academy, Amber Gurung, the Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Music and Drama, Kiran Manandhar, the Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, and Prof Dr Anuradha Kapur, the former Director of National School of Drama, New Delhi, India.[break]



The inauguration was done in front of a large crowd who had also gathered there to catch renowned theater artist Sunil Pokharel’s performance. The play, Sabiti, is based on Jagadish Ghimire’s book of the same title. The Night Band aided the solo performance of Pokharel with various musical accompaniments.
