The tales of Eka Deshma 2013

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: Bringing unexplored and untold stories into the big screens and for enthusiastic Kathmandu audience, Eka Deshma – Festival De´ Contemporary Cinema 2013 is here in its second year. This festival which was started last year, set out as a once- in-two-years affair. “But because of the overwhelming participation from the audience and filmmakers last year, we decided to run the festival this year too,” shared Soham Dhakal, the Festival Director.



Last year, over 1,500 audience and 20 films were a part of Eka Deshma. This year, the number of films has increased to 30, out of which 16 are entries from Nepal. Films from Belgium, Ireland, New Zealand and USA among other countries will also be shown in the Panorama of World Cinema category in collaboration with The Manhattan Short Film Festival.[break]



The festival that celebrates short-films is based on the theme: Threads of Stories.



Eight Nepali and four international short films will be competing in the Changing Perspectives category for a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and a package of production services sponsored by Aslesha Entertainment Service. While, one out of the eight films made by students in the Future of Nepali Cinema category will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 20,000 sponsored by Oscar College and a package of production services from Aslesha Entertainment Service.

Panel discussions and master classes will also be a part of this three-day affair.



Organized by Underground Talkies, a Kathmandu based production house established in 2009, Eka Deshma will begin on September 27 at QFX Kumari Cinemas in Kamalpokhari and Sarwanam Theater in Kalikasthan.
