Thapa scored 42 points to win the title of the event played under stableford 3/4 handicap format. Thapa, playing with 14 handicap, scored 23 points on the front nine and 19 on the back nine. Kamal Subedi, playing with 18 handicap, came second with 39 points. Neeraj SJB Rana took home the best gross award with 24 points.[break]
Ambika Rana took home the women´s trophy scoring 20 points to finish two points ahead of Connelly. Bejoy Moktan emerged winner in the senior section scoring 33 points while Man Bahadur Limbu finished second with 32 points.
LP Gurung won the award for most birdies, Puran Shrestha for longest drive and Bejoy Moktan for closest-to-the-pin.
Altogether 52 golfers had competed in the event. NGA President Madhukar Yakthumba and General Secretary Tashi Ghale distributed the prizes to the winners.
Meanwhile, the main event, the 54-hole Open Amateur Championship, will tee off on Sunday. Altogether eight teams will compete in team and individual categories during the championship.
Two teams each from Nepal, India and Bangladesh and one each from Sri Lanka and Bhutan will compete in the event that features 39 golfers in the individual section.
Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd and Western Union are the sponsor and co-sponsor of the tournament. The event is organized by Mountain Sports Federation-Nepal under the aegis of National Sports Council.
Shivaram wins second title under golf tour
