There were 11 categories consisting of debate, quiz, debugging, coding, advertisement-making, algorithm cracking, online puzzle solving, gaming, online quiz, puzzle and sudoku. The names of these events were very unique which in turn attracted a lot of youngsters. The non-competitive events had lecture sessions, sponsor-customized sessions, web-searching fun and expert sessions. In the stalls part, there were food stalls and stalls of other sponsors.
The participants seemed to enjoy themselves amidst such diversity of youths from different colleges.
“Technomania is a get-together of ´tech savvy´ folks from all over Kathmandu. It´s more high school oriented, unlike other technology competitions, which attracts more university level students. We are really happy to be participating in the first competition of its kind,” said Pragyan Thapa, 17, student of Little Angels´ School.
The credit behind the awesome organizing of the event goes to the young organizing committee of Eureka Managements consisting of 15 young students from different colleges and universities of Nepal. The organization hopes to showcase the students´ talents and reward their potential in various arenas.
“We have been organizing for the past three years. First, we organized the event ´Girls on Wheels´ and then have been organizing post-exam parties for students. We have been doing these events to basically integrate knowledge with fun,” said Shivam Agrawal, marketing manager of Eureka.
He added that there have been various similar events organized by other groups, but the reason why this event is different is because it´s a multidimensional extravaganza where technology and intellect mingle with a sporadic fun.
Technomania 2010 was not about making complicated robots and coming up with the best of software. It was just about realizing that technology is not just about being complicated, but also fun and excitement. For young people, having fun is also important and that is what Technomania provided. The platform provided an opportunity for youths to network with students from other colleges.
The event, which promised to celebrate ingenuity and dexterity, has certainly kept up to its expectation. It not just had competitions but also had various interactive lecture sessions on ethical hacking, cyber crime, e-governance and open source software. Another major attraction for the visitors was the Googling fun where students were given a search challenge. The entrance was free and everyone was whole-heartedly invited.
The event, sponsored by AMD by Neoteric and in association with Republica, will close on March 5 at White House Knowledge Village in Khulmaltar, Satdobato, Lalitpur. If you´re a technology freak, a visit to the event is a must!
