KATHMANDU, Sept 23: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has said that all stakeholders should focus on the development of information technology as communications and information technology is the most competitive sector in the world.
Speaking at an interaction on 'Strengthening of the communications sector for sustainable employment and economic growth in Nepal' organized by Union of ICTS Professionals Nepal on Friday, Minister Sharma laid emphasis that the government and the private sector should move ahead together for the development of the IT sector.

Stating that the government would do the needful for policy reforms, formulation of laws and infrastructure development for the development of the communication and information technology sector, she stressed that the private sector should increase investment.
Minister Sharman mentioned that the government in the budget of the current fiscal year has already announced to run nationwide production and employment initiatives in all local levels incorporating the information technology sector with the slogan 'Basis of Self-Reliant Economy: Production and Employment in the country'.
Sharing that the federal government has accorded high priority to law, infrastructure and human resource development to increase production and promote employment with the help of information technology, Minister Sharma added that the ministry has been encouraging the provinces and local levels for the same.
"We have been using more imported IT products so far. Now, the time has come to pay attention towards increasing IT-based products in the country," Minister Sharma expressed.
