BIRGUNJ, April 9: Journalists and other employees of the Birgunj-based Tarai Television, the only Nepali satellite channel operating from outside the capital, resorted to strike on Thursday, demanding guarantee of their job security.
The workers of the TV channel accused the management of planning to stop all news-related programs and sack the journalists.
The workers, united under the leadership of Ram Kumar Kurmi, formed a 25-member struggle committee and submitted a seven-point demand to the management.
Some of their demands include formal appointment letters to all the employees within four days and scrapping of a notice issued on Wednesday on plans to sack the journalists. They have threatened stringent strikes unless the management met their demands.
