“It will take at least one or two days to create conducive environment for talks,” said Krishna Prasad Sitaula, who is closely engaged in the negotiation process on behalf of the NC. “Hopefully, the situation will be created once the Maoists program of encircling Singha Durbar is over tomorrow [Sunday].”
Sitaula said that a meeting of ruling parties on Saturday decided to address the Maoist demand through negotiation while welcoming the decision of the the Maoists to withdraw their indefinite general strike. “It will largely depend on the type of protest program the Maoists will unveil further,” he further said.
Sitaula added that there is no alternative to consensus among the parties to to complete the peace process and write constitution. “Constitution-drafting and peace process can be taken to a logical end only through consensus, cooperation and unity among political parties. We must be able to create an environment of consensus within the next two-three days and sit for talks.
UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari, a member of UML talks team in bilateral as well as trilateral talks, said he has not been informed about any preparation about the talks with the Maoists.
Leaders said parties will also need at least two or three days to develop official position on issues of contention during their fresh round of talks.
