KATHMANDU, Oct 3: A music lover and an ardent football fan, Kristina Allen is known around town for her first album “Na badhana” which she launched when she was just 14.

The 12th grader of British School is now 16 years old. Kristina, who has been playing the guitar and singing since she was eight years old, enjoys writing songs and composing music. She is full of dreams, and her exciting plans for the future include both football and music.[break]

What have you been doing since “Na badhana” came out?

I´ve been writing songs keeping in mind an album that I´m hopeful will be ready by next year. I have a few songs in mind for that album, but they still need more work before they can be used. I´m planning on an English album with only one Nepali song so that it balances out my last one. Also,I´ve been toying with the idea of doing covers of various songs and posting them on YouTube. I should definitely have it ready by November. I´m planning on two covers per month. I´ve also been learning Thangka painting in Sanepa. I go for private lessons, and I´ve done paintings of the Buddha and many animals. I also perform whenever I get the chance, mostly at Moksh, House of Music, and Cube.

You started playing the guitar when you were eight years old. Where did you develop the interest in it and what other instruments can you play?

My father plays the guitar and the piano and that´s how I started getting interested in guitar. Also, Avril Lavigne´s “Complicated” was out around that time and it set off my interest. I have always been taught how to play by Sunny Tuladhar, the lead guitarist of Jindabaad. Apart from these two instruments, I can play the drums and ukulele.

Any Nepali artist that you like particularly?

Well, I don´t really listen to a lot of Nepali songs because I find it hard to connect with how the words are phrased so formally. The words used are very different from how we normally speak. It was the same with my songs in my album. It was only after I was explained the meaning behind each phrase that I could connect with it and do justice to it. However, I do like Albatross, Yama Buddha, and Astha Tamang Maskey.

Tell us something about your future plans.

I´m a huge football fan. I developed an interest in it around the same time as I did in music, and now I´m the captain of my school team. My favorite team is Liverpool and Steven Gerard is my favorite footballer. What I want to do is study sports management. Initially, I would like to join a football team in England and after I retire I would love to manage women´s football. I see myself returning to Nepal and using my skills to uplift the sports here. There are so many talented sportspersons in our country and all they need is proper management. I think I could do something in that sphere. Music will always be a part of me.
