Sujata made formal announcement of her candidacy for the post on Friday in Kathmandu, nearly two weeks after she actually began expediting her election campaign in various districts. [break]
Vice President Prakash Man Singh, Arjun Narsingh KC, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat and Sujata Koirala have announced their candidacy for the post of party general secretary from Koirala´s camp. Sushil Koirala can not afford to ignore Sujata for she holds considerably large number of pocket votes.
“He (Koirala) is also not in a position to ignore his close confidantes like Sitaula, Dr Mahat and KC,” said a leader close to Koirala. Additionally, Koirala is obliged to Singh as the latter lately joined his camp, severing his longstanding ties with senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Given the adamant nature of Sujata it is highly likely that there could be more than one candidate from Koirala camp contesting for the post of general secretary. “This would mean that a candidate contesting from Deuba camp will easily win the election for the post of general secretary,” said the leader.
