After the High Court’s judgment on the bail plea of Subba, the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (APMCC) has also started to look at Subba with suspicion. The committee demanded punishment to Subba if the charges against him are proved.
Talking to India newspaper, The Sentinel, APMCC president Sarifa Begum said: “I have no knowledge about the case. We are waiting for the high court order. If he really has committed anything against any woman, that is a heinous crime. All involved in any heinous crimes need to be punished. Personally I don’t support such crimes. If my husband commits such a crime, I won’t forgive him. Rape is a crime as well as a curse. Even God doesn’t forgive a rapist.”
State BJP general secretary Ritu Parna Deka said police should arrest Subba after the high court order on his bail plea. “Subba should be punished in accordance with the relevant laws, and he shouldn’t be let off simply because he is a powerful politician.”
Sadou Asom Pragatisheel Nari Santha leader Anju Barkataky said: “We welcome the high court order. There are people like Subba in other parties too, and they should learn a lesson from the Subba case.”
