BAGLUNG, Feb 21: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala said on Tuesday that the new statute would be promulgated within a week’s time if the Maoist sticks to the past agreements.

Maoists laxity and irresponsibility towards the constitution writing and peace process has stalled the processes, he opined speaking at a press meet in Baglung. [break]

Koirala also said that if the Maoists completes the tasks of surrendering the weapons, withdrawing the government’s decision to legalize the land deals under the ´people´s government´ during the insurgency period, dissolving the sister organizations like YCL and implementing the past agreements on integration, then the peace and constitution writing process will be completed on the stipulated time without any hurdle.

"Maoists are trying to stall the peace process by tempting leaders, the peace process cannot be completed till the Maoists are honest and flexible," he said. "NC and UML are already committed and flexible towards the peace process, now its Maoists turn," he added.

Maoists are free to go back to jungle if they don´t appreciate democracy, Koirala said.
