SSB had arrested Saptari-based reporter Jitendra Jha, Kantipur Television news reader Aryan Bishwas, and Kishore Kumar Yadav, chairman of a local youth club from Lalapati VDC-4 while they were returning after shooting footage of culvert, roads and houses constructed illegally by the Indians on no-man´s-land.[break]
The three were questioned for half an hour at a temporary police station at Rajpur, India.
“They said they were concerned because we did not seek their permission before taking the footage of the encroached area. The in-charge of the temporary security post Major Bikki Singh and his men even tried to seize our camera and delete the footage,” said Bishwas.
While Jha said he told the Indian security personnel that it was not necessary to seek their permission to visit Dasgaja. “Since encroachment is rampant on the border, we have every right to cover the issue,” said Jha.
Yadav said SSB personnel who arrested them were fully armed. “Due to total apathy of the government of Nepal, Nepalis living on the border are compelled to undergo unnecessary hassles at the hand of Indian security personnel almost every day. They don´t have any right to cross to the Nepali side of the border and harrass our people,” complained Yadav. Yabav is a local from Lallapati VDC.
There are around 100 India huts on the no man´s land.
