KATHMAND, May 31: Indian karatekas competed on Thursday at the Sixth NSKA Karate Championship that kicked off at the covered hall of National Sports Council.
Vikrant Sampat and Ayus Goyal in men´s open kata advanced into quarterfinals. Saikat Hanna and Lavakus Golker in U-45 kg, and Subhasis Dhanpath and Tanhe Sinhna in U-45 kg also advanced into men´s kata quarterfinals. [break]
Sushmita Das and Indija Mohanti in women´s U-15 kata, Sushmita Das and Swayang Subhradas in U-40 kg secured semifinal berths. In men´s 20 years kata, Asraful Alomas, Indranil Bachi advanced into the last eight.
Chetan Singh and Gautam Parmar in men´s 20 kg, andd Nitin Shovaka and Sriyon Dhaka in 25 kg booked quarterfinal places in men´s kumite.
LRI, Sainik advance in final
KATHMANDU: LRI and Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya advanced into the final of the First Olympia Inter-school U-14 Boy´s Knockout Football Tournament being held at Jawalakhel. LRI edged past Nobel Academy 1-0 with a lone goal from John Lama. In the second semifinal, Sainik Awasiya defeated Little Angel´s 2-0. Pradip Thapa scored both the goals for Sainik Awasiya. The final will be held Saturday.
´Mini Marathon´ on Saturday
KATHMANDU: Jaycees Events is organizing a ´Mini Marathon´ on Saturday. The 6-km race will begin from Apex College, Old Baneshwar, and will finish at the same place. More than 400 runners from various schools shall compete in the event. The event will feature both boy´s and girl´s races. The top three finishers of both the categories will receive Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively.
Himalayan Outdoor Festival begins Friday
KATHMANDU: Himalayan Outdoor Festival, a three-day adventure sports event, is all set to kick off Friday at Hattiban Resort, Kathmandu.
The event will feature mountain biking, trail running and rock climbing, the organizers informed. Mountain biking will feature three different competitions -- Marmot Night Uphill Challenge, Hattiban XC Super Challenge and Super D (Downhill), said Dipesh Ghale, the president of Himalayan Outdoor.
According to the organizer, about 40 participants are set to compete in the night uphill challenge, 50 to 60 participants in the XC Super Challenge and 60 participants in the downhill event.
The trail running event includes Western Union 5 km Trail Run, LA College Champa Devi 10 km Challenge and Muddy Heaven. In Muddy Heaven, the dirtiest runner at the end will be declared the winner.
Natural Rock-Climbing and Dyno Bouldering competitions are included in the rock climbing event. In Dyno Bouldering the participants need to leap from one handhold or foothold to another.
