KATHMANDU, Dec 14: A meeting of Special Committee on Suprevision, Management and Rehabilitation of the Maoist Combatants has extended the term of its technical committee by three months on Monday.

The meeting of the body entrusted to co-ordinate management, integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants held at Singh Durbar also approved nomination of two new Maoist representatives in the technical committee.

The term of the technical committee expired on December 1.

All that the technical committee has done so far is it prepared code of conduct for the Maoist combatants. However, it has failed to set the criteria for combatants´ entry to the army, arguing that this is something to be determined at political level.

Monday´s meeting of the Special Committee approved Chandra Prakash Khanal a.k.a. Baldev and Kul Prasad KC as new Maoist representatives in the technical committee. Earlier, the UCPN (Maoist) had sent Barsha Man Pun and Indrajit Rai as its representatives in the technical committee.

The special committee meeting was held very briefly as the prime minister was scheduled to attend a meeting of three major parties -- Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the UPCN (Maoist) -- before leaving for Copenhagen on Monday afternoon.
