KATHMANDU: Sadbhavana Party (SP) has expressed reservations over the Supreme Court (SC) order making citizenship certificate mandatory for voter registration.

Speaking to Republica, party general secretary Manish Kumar Suman said, “The interim order issued by SC on Monday violates clause 11 of the electoral roll act 2063 BS.” [break]

He said the clause clearly mentions that other identification documents will be also taken into consideration while registering the voters. The party has decided to stage a protest rally against the SC interim order at Shanti Batika on Sunday.

“The government had agreed on May 26 to register voters on the basis of other identification documents as well,” said press release. He said making citizenship certificate mandatory for voter registration was an attempt to further sideline the marginalized communities.
