The ambassador also inaugurated an eye care camp organized by Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS) at Khumjung Higher Secondary School.

Since 2001, the Indian government has been providing assistance to NNJS for eye care programmes through country-wide free of cost eye camps organized as part of the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme, the embassy said.

Under the programme over 75,000 people have so far been cured of cataract and trachoma and optical devices have been distributed to over 18,000 school going children with the Indian  grant assistance worth Rs 98.3 million.

The camp at Khumjung is one among the 450 camps for trachoma and cataract surgeries being organized by the NNJS across 60 districts in Nepal during the year 2010-2011, according to the embassy.
