When I open my eyelids,
Opening myself to the grandeur of the world.
There's jubilation:
In the air I breathe,In the distant mountains that look like ibex horns
Piercing through the sky;
In the flying sparrows, chasing one another,
Through the trees and the mist;
In the barking of the sick dog,
Lying on the road, outside my house.
Each morning,
In the cup of coffee, newly bought,
I drink ecstasy
In long, greedy sips.
In the bed and in the chair,
Inside in the disarray of my room,
In the outcry of the electric kettle,
In the brewing coffee, bubbling and gurgling,
I find a sense of happiness.
All this is happiness
Blooming like a bud, in front of my eyes,
Whose essence, invisible and fluctuating,
I try to capture
Like a star capturing a comet.
Happiness, when not seized, I believe
Dies young.
