“A westerly disturbance has clouds that will cover the country, we should expect rain throughout the country on Monday and Tuesday,” said KB Malla, a meteorologist with the Weather Forecasting Division.
The westerly phenomenon began in the west and will travel eastwards bringing rain to both the hills and the Tarai region. This is certainly a good news for people in the Tarai who have been living in temperatures around 40 degree Celsius for over a week. Maximum temperature in Bhairahawa was 42 and Simara 40 degree Celsius on Saturday. The rains will also stop the heat wave from entering into Nepal from Bihar.
“There is a severe heat wave in the Indian states of Bihar, West Bengal and Orissa, and if cloud cover disappears after the rains, there are chances of it entering into Nepal,” says Malla.
As for Kathmandu, maximum temperature hovered around 30 degree Celsius (33.1 on Saturday and 33.5 on Friday). But cloud cover will drop the mercury but minimum temperature will increase, making dawns hotter and humid.
“The clouds retain the heat in the atmosphere, thereby raising the minimum temperature,” explains Malla.
