Semifinal line up completes

CHITWAN/KATHMANDU, June 14: Region No 1 (Biratnagar) and Region No 9 (Dhangadhi) on Sunday secured the remaining two places for the semifinals in the 20-over Prime Minster Cup Women's National Cricket Tournament being held in Chitwan and Pokhara.

Region No 7 (Janakpur) and departmental giant APF Club have already advanced into the last four as winners of Group B and Group A respectively. Biratnagar and Dhangadhi made it to the knock-out stage as Group A and Group B runners-up.Biratnagar sailed into the semifinals defeating Region No 8 (Pokhara) by a huge margin of 161 runs at the Rangashala ground, Pokhara.

The big win against co-host Pokhara helped the eastern side to sideline the Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) and Region No 3 (Kathmandu) in the net run rate despite earning equal four points from as many matches.

APF will meet Region Dhangadhi and Janakpur will take on Biratnagar in the semifinals to be played on Tuesday in Pokhara.

Meanwhile, Sunday morning's rain was enough for Dhangadhi to finish as Group B runner-up as it shared a point with Region No 2 (Birgunj) as the former had won two matches earlier. Bhairahawa collected five points from four matches. The only point Birgunj had won was from draw after it was abandoned.

During Sunday's crucial encounter, Biratnagar posted 184/7 runs against Pokhara in allotted 20 overs after Kajol Shrestha completes half a century scoring 55 runs off 43 balls and Apsari Begum added 36-run a ball. Kajor hit seven fours and Apsari cracked four boundaries.

Pokhara bowlers gave away extra 50 runs.

Arya Aryal bagged highest two wickets for Pokhara, which was bundled out for 23 runs in 10.5 overs. Shila Regmi was highest scorer for Pokhara with six runs.

Sangita Rai claimed three wickets while player-of-the-match Apsari and Sabnam Rai pocketed two wickets each to secure Biratnagar's huge victory.

In another match of Group A played for 15 overs per side at the same venue, Nepalgunj recorded seven wickets win against Kathmandu.

Nepalgunj easily chased 52 runs target in 10.2 overs with Sanju Chaudhary's highest 12 runs. Gita Gossai and Trishna Singh contributed eight runs each as Nepalgunj lost three wickets.

Geeta Chudal of Kathmandu bagged highest two wickets.

Earlier, winning the toss and opting to bat first, Kathamndu scored 51/8 in allotted 15 overs. Suman Khatiwada scored 12 runs and Sarada Wagle contributed 10 runs.

Player-of-the-match Trishna bagged highest two wickets for Nepalgunj.

In Group B match played at the Campachaur in Chitwan, Region No 6 (Baitadi) recorded consolation victory against Region No 4 (Bhairahawa).

After losing three previous matches, Baitadi handed Bhairahawa a 48-run defeat.

Opting to bat first, Baitadi posted 116/4 in allotted 20 overs as Manju Bokati (37) and Rekha Rawal (not out 31) scored in double digits.

Barsha Rana Magar claimed two wickets for Bhairahawa, which completed allotted overs for 68/9. Barsha contributed 26 runs for Bhairahawa.

With the results, Nepalgunj, Kathmandu and Pokhara crashed out of the tournament from Group A, while Bhairahawa, Baitadi and Birgunj saw packing their luggages from Group B.
