KATHMANDU, March 3: The Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday issued an interim order against an instruction of the National Information Commission (NIC) to Nepali Police to provide documents related to promotion of five police officers.

After a hearing on the writ petition filed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kuber Singh Rana, a single bench of Justice Girish Chandra Lal also ordered the petitioners and defendants to appear before the court for discussion on the issue.[break]

Rana on February 20 had moved the apex court against the instruction issued by National Information Commission (NIC). The petitioner has claimed that the instruction issued by the NIC is against the existing laws.

Acting on an application filed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Purna Singh Khadka, NIC had asked the police headquarters to provide documents related to promotion of five police officers.

A cabinet meeting held on December 20 last year had decided to promote five SSPs to the post of Deputy Inspector General (DIG).
