Satish, Sandeep guide Team Red to victory

KATHMANDU, Nov 30: Satish Bhagat's half century and Sandeep Lamichhane's three-wicket haul helped Team Red, led by Raju Rijal, beat Team Blue, captained by Aarif Sheikh, by 66 runs to record second win in the U-19 Double Round-robin League cricket event at the Tribhuvan University Ground, Kirtipur on Monday.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is holding the event to select players for the ICC U-19 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh from January 22 to February 14.On Monday, winning the toss and opting to bat first, Team Red put up 265/8 in allotted 50 overs, with Satish remaining not out on 61 runs off 66 balls and skipper Raju Rijal contributing 48 runs facing 54 balls.

Satish smashed two sixes and seven boundaries, while Raju cracked two sixes and four boundaries.

Similarly, Suman Ghimire remained not out on 37 runs playing only 22 balls that included five boundaries, while Yogendra Karki and Avinash Karn contributed 27 runs each.

Irshad Ahmed bagged three wickets, while Aarif Sheikh and Dipesh Shrestha picked up two wickets each for Team Blue.

In reply, Team Blue was restricted on 199 runs in 44.2 overs as Team Red's Sandeep Lamicchane pocketed three wickets giving away only 18 runs in 10 overs spell that included two maiden overs as well.

Sudeep Poudel scored 40 runs off 45 balls that included a six and five fours, while Aasif Sheikh contributed 34 runs facing 55 balls hitting six boundaries. Similarly Sandeep Sunar scored 29 runs and Pawan Thapa added 27 runs for Team Blue that fell 68 runs short of the target they were chasing.

Sagar Bhandari, Pawan Sarraf and Arjun Saud claimed two wickets each for Team Red that beat Team Green by 127 runs on Sunday.
