CDO thanks protestors for peaceful demonstration
SARLAHI, Sept 15: People of Sarlahi have always backed the demands of the Madhesi Morcha. However, with zero causality in the 32 days of protests, their agitation has always remained peaceful.

On Tuesday, a sea of people led by Tarai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP) was seen on the streets with lathi in their hands. The massive 'lathi rally' that started from Tin Bighe Maidan and encircled Malangwa, turned out to be peaceful as expected.

Jangilal Ray, district president of TMLP, had urged the protestors to take care of their 'distinct image' and keep that intact at any cost.

"Sarlahi is today showing Kathmandu the power of peaceful protest," said Ray, while addressing the crowd.

"Today, we need to be even more patient as the participation is far bigger than usual. We are not going to pelt stones at police. Those who are found doing so will face the music," he warned.

Several other leaders of TMLP including Pramod Sah, Ashok Yadav and Kaushal Ray also addressed the mass, appealing them for peaceful protest.

"In our neighboring districts, many people have died and many more have become injured. Violent protests have done no good to anyone. So, we need to be under control and press for our demands peacefully," said Sah. "We are making the protest in Malangwa exemplary," he added.

Tight security arrangement was made at Malangwa's bordering check points of Jhim Nadi, Shiva Sagar Chowk, Gorkahkali and Musauli in view of Tuesday's protest. Police were deployed around several party offices. Over 100 police personnel were kept standby as back-up force around the District Administration Office.

"The nature of the protest simply surprised me. I had not even the slightest of idea that it could be so peaceful," said Meghnath Kafle, the Chief District Officer of Sarlahi.

Overwhelmed by the calm attitude of the protestors during the lathi rally, Kafle praised them saying, "I thanked them a lot after the rally was over. I have reported about the peaceful nature of the protest to the center," Kafle added.

Madhesi parties and people have expressed their dissatisfaction over the provincial model of the constitution, among other things. Stating that the major political parties breached the earlier agreements made with them, the dissidents of Madhes have been protesting for over a month now.
