Rupee strengthens, gold price falls

KATHMANDU, Jan 1: Nepali rupee gained 6 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, strengthened against the greenback. Price of gold, on the other hand, fell by Rs 255 per 10 grams over the week.CURRENCY

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, opened currency trading on Sunday with value of US dollar fixed at Rs 106.24.

Though rupee's value remained unchanged on Monday, the local currency gained 13 paisa on Tuesday to settle at 106.11 against the greenback. On Wednesday, however, rupee depreciated by 40 paisa to close at 106.51 against dollar. Rupee lost another 1 paisa against US dollar to 106.52. Rupee, however, gained 34 paisa against US dollar on Friday to close the week's trading at 106.18.

Likewise, rupee gained 34 paisa against euro and Rs 1.29 against Pound Sterling over the week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 116 on Friday, while the British Pound was valued Rs 157.35.

BULLION

Gold price came down by Rs 255 per 10 grams this week. Trading on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 41,410 per 10 grams.

Price of gold remained unchanged at Rs 41,410 per 10 grams till Wednesday. However, gold price fell by Rs 255 per 10 grams on Thursday to Rs 41,155. Gold price remained unchanged at Rs 41,155 per 10 grams on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 41,155.

Price of silver remained unchanged this week. Silver was traded at Rs 579 per 10 grams on Friday.
