KATHMANDU, Dec 18: Nepali rupee gained 40 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, gained value against the greenback. Likewise, price of gold came down by Rs 945 per 10 grams over the week.CURRENCY
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory authority, opened currency trading on Sunday with value of US dollar fixed at Rs 107.17.
Rupee lost 15 paisa on Monday to settle at 107.32 against US dollar. On Tuesday too, rupee shed 28 paisa to close at 107.60 against the greenback. The local currency, however, gained 9 paisa against US dollar on Wednesday to settle at 107.51. Rupee gained another 24 paisa on Thursday to close at 107.27 against the dollar. Rupee continued winning streak on Friday as well, gaining 50 paisa to close the week's trading at 106.77 against US dollar.
Rupee also gained Rs 1.45 against euro and Rs 2.35 against Pound Sterling this week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 116.03 on Friday, while the Pound Sterling was valued Rs 160.
BULLION
Gold price came down by Rs 945 per 10 grams this week. Trading opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 41,840 per 10 grams.
Price of the yellow metal increased by Rs 85 per 10 grams to Rs 41,925 on Monday. However, the price fell by Rs 345 per 10 grams on Tuesday to settle at Rs 41,580. On Wednesday also, price of gold fell by Rs 85 per 10 grams to Rs 41,495. Though gold price remained unchanged on Thursday, price of the yellow metal fell by Rs 600 per 10 grams on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 40,895.
Similarly, price of silver came down by Rs 4.5 per 10 grams this week. Silver was traded at Rs 574.5 per 10 grams in the domestic market on Friday.
