Currency
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central monetary authority, had fixed the exchange rate of US dollar at Rs 85.58 when trading opened on Sunday. Though rupee gained against US dollar by 18 paisa on Monday and 14 paisa on Tuesday, it lost 14 paisa when trading closed at Rs 85.40 on Wednesday. But rupee bounced back a day later, gaining 10 paisa on Thursday. The exchange rate of rupee with US dollar remained unchanged at Rs 85.5 on Friday.
According to news agencies, the Indian currency strengthened against US dollar due to foreign inflows ahead of the government stake sale in National Thermal Power Corporation despite weak domestic shares and demand for the greenback from oil importers limiting gains.
Similarly, rupee gained a whopping Rs 1.83 against British Pound and 73 paisa against Euro over the week. On Friday, Euro was exchanged at Rs 115.95 while British Pound was valued Rs 134.03.
Bullion
Gold became dearer by Rs 430 per 10 grams over the week. Bullion trading opened this week with gold priced at Rs 49,555 per 10 grams on Sunday. Though the price remained unchanged on Monday, it went up by Rs 255 per 10 grams on Tuesday. The price, however, came down by Rs 255 per 10 grams on Wednesday only to see the price go up by the same amount on Thursday.
The yellow metal became expensive by Rs 175 per 10 grams to close at Rs 49,985 per 10 grams on Friday.
Despite price fluctuations, price of silver remained unchanged over the week. Silver was traded at Rs 956 per 10 grams on Friday.
