The players played football in the midst of the road in a bid to press the government to construct a stadium in Itahari. Earlier, the government had announced to construct a regional stadium in Itahari. The road match played between players and representatives of political parties obstructed vehicular movement along the east-west highway for about half-an-hour.

National football striker Surendra Tamang, among others, participated in the football match from the player´s side. Tamang is a resident of Itahari. National level players participated in other games too.
Despite the government´s declaration in the fiscal budget 2066\67 to construct a regional level stadium in Sunsari district, the venue for the stadium has not been fixed yet. The residents of Dharan, Itahari and Inaruwa have been lobbying for the construction of the stadium in their own areas.
A team lead by the president of Stadium Struggle Committee Jagdish Prasad Oli is in the capital to press the government to construct the stadium in Itahari, said Rabin Gautam, secretary of the struggle committee.

“We initiated the process of building the stadium in Itahari two years ago. So the stadium should be built here,” said Rajiv Dhungana, a committee member. The Stadium Construction Suggestion Committee started its work from Tuesday. The committee would inspect the proposed venues in Inaruwa, Itahari, Dharan and Town-oriented Duhabi VDC for the stadium.
