Submitting a memorandum to Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kantha Uprety on Thursday, they also urged top EC officials to address their concerns before the polls.
According to women human rights activist Renu Raj Bhandari, they urged EC to ensure at least 33 percent representation of women in the new CA.[break]
“Our main concern is to ensure voting rights to the disabled, elderly and conflict-hit women,” said Bhandari, adding, “Even family members of the disabled women do not want them to acquire citizenship for fear that they would claim share in the parental property.”
Women human rights activists also expressed concern over the threat issued to women who have been advocating for polls. “We also urged EC officials to address the security concern of such women,” Bhandari maintained.
Similarly, they urged top EC officials to announce the poll date stating that the delay in announcement of a date would create uncertainties.
