Republica journo threatened

BIRATNAGAR, Aug 17: Republica scribe Khila Nath Dhakal has been threatened by a man power entrepreneur over a report published in Tuesday´s edition of the newspaper.



Proprietor of the Broadway Overseas in Damak Tej Bahadur Yonghang threatened Dhakal in connection to the news titled “Firm detains six Nepalis in Libya”.[break]



“I know everything about you all. Publish a correction immediately,” Dhakal quoted Yonghang as saying over the phone. “He threatened that he could go to anything if a corrigendum was not published,” Dhakal added.



Dhakal had reported the plight of six youths of Tandi-6 who had gone to Libya for employment and detained by the firm where they were supposed to work. NB, 22, Dal Bahadur Magar, San Bahadur Magar, Prem Bahadur Magar, Ramesh Khanaland Bhupendra Ghimire of Tandi-8 had gone to Libya eight months ago through Broadway Overseas incurring expenses of Rs 160,000. They had been promised a monthly salary of Rs 20,000.



However, the story quoted relatives of the six saying that the company hasn´t paid them and also refused to send them back.



Cops thrash Republica dispatcher



Two police personnel posted at Area Police Office, Kohalpur, bashed up Biplav Anup Sharma, the dispatcher of Nepal Republic Media Nepalgunj regional office on Sunday.



According to Sharma, he was manhandled for no reason while he was returning to Nepalgunj from Kohalpur after dispatching Republica and Nagarik dailies to Surkhet.



Police bashed him up even after he identified himself as newspaper dispatcher.



Rupesh Rawal, in-charge of Area Police Office, Kohalpur, expressed ignorance about the incident but pledged to identify the culprits and take action.
